What to do on a snowday!!
With another snow storm making its way to New York with the threat of 6-12 inches, it seems apropos to get ready. Here is my survival guide.
1- Food shopping- get the staples ( milk, eggs, cereal…) and things you can make into an activity (that aren’t TOO junky) like microwave popcorn, hot cocoa mix, ingredients for oatmeal cookies. See my recipe below-
My yummy and (healthy) oatmeal cookies
2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1cup oil
1 cup flour
3 cups oatmeal
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp baking soad
1 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup wheat germ
bake at 350 till brown
2- attitude- the storm is coming! I can either complain or see it as a oppurtunity to bond and create memories for my children. I’m not going to tell u how I feel inside but my children see that I am excited to have this chance to have fun with them. (Maybe my cleaning lady will brave the storm and still come….)
3- Check to make sure I have gloves, hats, salt and shovel.
On the snow day…
4- set up an activity table- put out supplies like glue, paper, glitter and odds and ends like beads and newspaper. Let them use their imagination and create.
5- Plan an unusual supper and let the kids be involved in all aspects of it
6- My kids love to make forts and houses with blankets and pillows. We then all go inside and read a story.
7- of course don’t forget about snowball fights, igloos and snowmen.
Good Luck!:)

I wished I would have been more prepared after last week. My kids had off 2 days and I could have used some ideas. My husband made snowcones with my kids. He took “clean” snow from outside and added rasberry syrup. They loved it!:)
I hear another storm is coming Jordana _ You can get ready now:) Like your snowcone idea. Nothing creative to add. To me a successful day is one where I kept my cool and didn’t scream. I have 4 delicious very active kids – it is not easy.
