Memorial Day White? Nah! Stripe a Pose with Colorful Stripes
Happy Memorial Day! Hope you’re enjoying the warm weather, and in fashion you are now officially allowed to wear white….but wait! That rule is such a myth. We’ve seen winter white all winter, and shades of beige and white all spring. Now it’s officially time for some fabulous color, and the trend I’m loving now, especially for a chilled vacation day, is colorful stripes. Stripes are everywhere! Here is a little collage to show you that you can really mix and match your stripes as long as you keep a common color scheme running throughout the look. This is something you can intuitively ‘feel’ when you get dressed. If it feels right then dare to wear it!
In this collage I used a basic white pencil skirt ($78) as the foundation piece to anchor many different striped pieces. A striped tank ($7.50) can be worn under a solid cardigan ($130) and the colors do not have to match perfectly, they should just be in the same family. You can also layer a tank over a white t-shirt. Pick one striped accessory of a different width like a set of bangles ($58), a cool tote ($15.29), or a fabulous pair of striped shoes ($39.95) or espadrilles ($69.95) (but not all 3). For those who are more conservative try a fabulous striped blouse ($129) in a great design and pair with your basic white or solid colored skirt. For those more daring throw on a striped floppy hat ($12.99) for a little drama and sun protection too. Finish the look with a mostly bare face and a fabulous pop of coral or red lip gloss:
Of course there are those of you who enjoy the creative concept of this but will want to stick to a safer more reserved way of going striped. In that case go nautical and try a cool black and white striped maxi skirt ($39) with a solid top and a brightly colored belt ($31.50). I’m loving orange or yellow for a fun summer holiday look.
Whatever you decide, make sure you love the way you look and feel, and take some time to enjoy the day….
