Weekend Fun with a Cause: Showhouse at the Shore

This past week I spend a fabulous day at the shore and I want to share it with you! The weather was divine and my married daughter, Sara was in for a visit from Chicago. We planned our day based around visiting a local Designers’ Showhouse in Deal, NJ, an elegant seaside town on the Jersey Shore replete with old word mansions, private beach clubs and quaint shops.

The pretty walkway to the historic mansion across the street from the Atlantic Ocean
Hand stenciled walls by Albert Sultan of Sultanchic (www.sultanchic.com) in crayon box colors adorn the central hallways and accent the stained glass window on the landing.
What appears as living art is a simple and inexpensive DIY project. (Instructions coming!)
Calling all animal lovers! Did you ever see such an elegant dog bed? It even comes with its own crystal chandelier!
I think this was my favorite object in the whole house and the picture does it no justice! This ‘chandelier’ is really a series of  crystal components suspended from the ceiling by wires. The light bulbs are not actual light bulbs but silver mirrors that capture the reflection of the spots on the ceiling! FAB! (And it can be yours for only $20,000!!)
Beautiful and vibrant tablescape inspiration. I love the square plates, bright orange napkins and organic shell napkin rings!
View of the garden and the ocean beyond from an upstairs window seat.
Love this oversized floor mirror with built in sconces.
A cozy attic bedroom
Who doesn’t love peonies? A most gorgeous room accessory when simply bunched in a small vase.
Have old and marred wood floors? Just paint a gorgeous and graphic pattern and voila….new floors. The imperfections just add to this shabby chic, distressed look. And I LOVE the pattern in soft grays and whites!
Such a cozy way to accentuate the quaint architectural details of an attic room: upholstered walls! Love it!
View into the landing, coming down the stairs. The wall is actually comprised of two wallpapers layered.
This bathroom is tres chic with its organic 3D stone tiles.
A small closet is transformed into an adorable and colorful gardener’s shed.
The inside door of the closet is the perfect place for hanging storage and the trellis the perfect background.
An inexpensive green shag carpet is a whimsical way to give the impression of a grassy floor.
That’s me in front a neighboring Spanish style mansion. Tee shirt: Kiki Riki, Skirt: Charlotte Russe (I’m actually wearing two skirts because the skirt was too short for me, so I layered it on top of a black pencil skirt from Express), Shoes: Christian Louboutin, Bag: Target, Sunglasses: Tom Ford (I’m the queen of mixing high and low!!)
‘Decor by the Shore’ takes place in an historic mansion at 136 Ocean Avenue, Deal, NJ, right across the street from the ocean. Admission is $30 and all proceeds go to the Sephardic Community Center. Hours are Sun: 11-6, Mon-Thur: 10-6, Fri: 10-4, Closed Sat.
This is a great weekend activity for getting inspired and spending time with family and friends; and it’s especially nice knowing the money spent is going to charitable causes!
You may not always be able to get away, but some days (or even hours) can be  ’mini-vacations’.  Try to plan some ‘resort’ time into your life whenever you can. It can be as rejuvenating (if not more) as a full vacation.
Have a good Shabbos and a beautiful weekend!
