Patterned Floors
By Marissa Melohn
Hey Kosher Street!
Have you heard? Patterned and painted floors are one of the hottest new (and of course returning) floor trends. If you’re bored of your plain wooden floors and want a real wow factor why not paint your floor in an amazing geometric design? Or how about throwing a bold color on your wood floor? Stripes, chevron zig-zags, polka-dots, florals… you name it- it can look oh so chic!!!
Here’s some inspiration for you!
The large stenciled white floral design on the floor looks great with a grainy almost gritty wood background. To me this feels very shabby chic.
One of the most common painted patterns is the diamond in two colors. You’ll see this appear in many different spaces, not always painted, but always with the same dramatic flair.
I do not necessarily love this candy colored striped floor in a dining room but it would be fabulous in a family room or a children’s bedroom or even a basement!
I absolutely adore this white & blue cottage bathroom design. The glossy blue painted floor with the oversized white medallions is so gorgeous against the white beadboard walls and glossy white pedestal sink. The coordinating medallions on the walls finish this bathroom up so cleverly.
The floral painted floor is an interesting backdrop for this earthy green & black foyer design with green grasscloth wallpaper, a black bench, and a brass coffee table.
How sleek is this shiny painted floor? I especially love it in a kitchen. The color is ultra hot.
Adorable painted numbers staircase and rope banister. Why not go ahead and paint your staircase with a faux runner?
This boy’s bedroom is really brought together with the green and orange painted floor. Love it!!
Don’t be afraid to try a painted geometric designed floor in a traditional home. Notice how the colors are very soft.
Bold yet totally elegant floor design by Mary Mcdonald. She is a wonderful designer who is known to frequently introduce painted floors into her magnificent luxuriously designed homes.
A bathroom and a women’s home office that both display painted chevron designed floors. This is my personal favorite design for a painted floor! I am so reinterpreting this style for a client of mine soon…
Graphic in royal blue…
Floral in hello yellow!
A subdued neutral geometric designed floor in a sitting room.
The painted striped floor in this room works well with the floral chairs, English furniture, and skirted sofa.
A refined and classical entry way which is highlighted with the great painted floor.
Many of us love a good, bold pattern and we frequently introduce them into spaces through the use of graphic rugs. However, patterned floors offer an interesting change to the regular wooden floors we are all so used to. Could you fully commit to all-over pattern through tile or painted wood floors? How do you feel about this look?

Love these painted floors! we are moving into a small townhouse soon and I’m wondering – what are the best patterns/colors to make small rooms look larger? Also, if we paint the wood floor how long does it take to get washed out? Do wwe have to redo it every few years?
Am I the lucky client who gets the zigzag floor? or was that the ceiling? I love it! The boy’s bedroom is pretty funky too.
