Saturday Night Drink: Chocolate Peppermint Milk Tea
Winter Colds SUCK! This annoying little bugger of a cold I have been fighting all week has finally gotten the better of me today. -( I now always have the image of the Mucus Boy cartoon commercial for that Mucus cold medicine in my head –you all know the one..)
So tonight instead of going to the city and enjoying a fun time with some old friends, I am home, in bed. Because, tomorrow I want to meet my new niece (even if it’s with me behind a face mask) and this little germ monster that has made a home in my head – well –I am evicting him tonight ASAP! (images of me flooding him out of his little temp apartment is running rampant in my head)
As a kid my mother use to always make us drink loads and loads of peppermint tea when ever we came down with a cold. The menthol in peppermint has great medicinal value (vapors are powerful in easing congestion) and if you have a hacking cough it is extremely soothing and really does help ease the symptoms.
Even when I am not fighting a cold, peppermint tea is delicious and one of my favorite things to drink when I want to just feel warm from the inside out. It is an awesome accompaniment to some great biscotti and perfect for a cold winter Saturday night.
If you are a lover of peppermint patties – well just imagine them melted down into a drinkable delight – Yum Yum! Of course mine also has a nice dollop of whip cream on top!
So TAKE THAT – you little Mucus Boy!
Chocolate Peppermint Milk Tea
Ingredients:
milk
bitter sweet chocolate, chopped
Peppermint tea
Directions:
Heat the milk on the stove top until it has come to a low simmer. Take 3-4 peppermint tea bags and let them steep in some hot water for about 10 minutes.
In a separate mug add your chopped up chocolate to the bottom of the cup, pour in a 1/2 cup of the hot milk. Then add 1/2 cup of the steeped peppermint tea. Mix well and enjoy. I usually add a bit of splenda, some whip cream and extra shaved chocolate to top the whole thing off -
